The exhibition "Hidden Statues: The Luxor Cache Discovery" aims to tell the story behind one of the most important findings of the XX century.On January 22 1989, in the colonnade court built by Amenhotep III in the Luxor Temple, a large slab comes to light by chance. The slab turns out to be the base of a statue.
A perimeter is set around the area, and soon the archaeologists discover that the pit where the base is found also contains 26 masterpieces of ancient Egyptian statuary: a true cache, created on a still unknown occasion, which this exhibition aims to present through a series of pictures belonging to the personal archive of Mohammad Al-Saghir - the archaeologist overseeing the discovery.
The exhibition "Hidden Statues", in collaboration with Lorenzo de' Medici Institute and LdM Gallery, is addressed to all audience and intends to shed light to the amazing finding of the Luxor cache, by also offering insights on the whole ancient Egyptian culture, as well as its religion.
The opening will take place on November 18, 2024, starting from 10:00. The curators of the exhibition will be present.
